Well it's a spin-off, not a sequel so that's why. Plus I think this spin-off has way more guys than in the main show.

In the main story, it's pretty much just Kazuma and his harem. In here, we at least have the teachers and townsfolk.

It's a prequel, not a spin-off. This is probably a year or so before Megumin and Yunyun meet Kazuma, Darkness, etc., since she looks just like she does in the previous season.

Megumin seems kinda mean , and extremely haughty without him.
Most Shonen and Isekai, I usually do not care much for the MC's , as they are made as bland and appealing to as many as possible, and then do specific tropes for the side characters, but Konosuba is different, there is not really any tropes, except for the ones they make fun of.

Kazuma is a bastard, and yet, we all love him, and is the glue that holds everything together, I still really like Megumin though, even more so than Kazuma, but there is something missing without him to foil Megumin.

Yunyun is a straight man for Megumin, so they still have a funny and cute dynamic, since Megumin obviously wants to be friends with Yunyun but just acts tsundere about it.

Yunyun is the straight man for the entire village.
